Reporting a change in caring
What you should do if your caring responsibilities change
You must tell Universal Credit as soon as possible if:
- you are no longer caring for someone
- you are no longer getting Carer's Allowance
- you have a temporary break from caring
- your care has dropped below 35 hours
- you share your caring responsibilities
- you start to earn a wage for being a carer
- the person you are caring for is no longer getting Attendance Allowance, Disability Living Allowance or Personal Independence Payment
- the person you are caring for goes into hospital
- the person you are caring for goes into respite care
- the person you are caring for dies
This is not a complete list.
These changes may mean that you can no longer get the Carer's element. You may also need to accept a new Claimant Commitment.
