More information on earnings and benefits
Benefits and tax credits use very precise definitions of earnings. For more information please see how earnings are defined in benefits and tax credits.
Please enter your earnings before tax and national insurance. We will then work out how much tax and national insurance is due on this amount. To do this we need to know your national insurance status and whether you claim blind person’s tax allowance. You can find your gross earnings from your payslip.
Please also enter any pension contributions you make.
Special rules apply in benefits if you work as a part-time fireman, coastguard or member of the TA, or if you work as a childminder in your own home. We will automatically work out the extra allowances you qualify for in these circumstances.
