What is it?
Winter Fuel Payments are made to all households with an individual aged 60 or over.
Winter Fuel Payments are worth £200 a year if you and your partner are aged 60-79, rising to £300 a year if you or your partner are aged 80 or over. Winter Fuel Payments are usually paid in November or December.
Can I get it?
If you or your partner are aged 60 or over on the third Monday in September you qualify for a Winter Fuel Payment.
You can not get a Winter Fuel Payment if you are in hospital for more than 52 weeks or living in a care home and have been doing so for more than 12 weeks.
How do I claim?
You should get your payment automatically if you received a Winter Fuel Payment last winter or if you are getting a State Pension or any other benefit (excluding Housing Benefit, Council Tax Benefit or Child Benefit).
If you have not qualified for a Winter Fuel Payment before, and are not getting another benefit, you will need to make a claim by 30 March following the winter you are claiming for.
You can phone the Winter Fuel Payment Helpline on 08459 151515 (textphone 0845 601 5613) or download a claim form online at the Pension Service website.
