Retirement Pension

You qualify for the state retirement pension if you are over state pension age.

State pension age is gradually increasing and now depends on when you were born. For more information see changes to state pension age.

If you already receive a state pension and we ask you for a value in the calculator please enter the full amount you get in state retirement pension including any additional pension (state earnings-related pension scheme, second state pension or graduated retirement benefit) paid alongside the basic state pension. This does not need to include any other benefits you receive from the Department for Work and Pensions.

If you are deferring your state pension please see our state pension guide. In general we cannot provide an accurate estimate of your Pension Credit entitlement if you are deferring. Please contact the Pension Service on 0845 60 60 265 for an estimate and the Northern Ireland Pension Centre Claim Line 0808100 2658.
