If you live in a residential care home or are in hospital we cannot estimate your entitlement: special rules apply and our estimate may not be correct. Please contact the Pension Credit application line on freephone 0800 99 1234 (textphone 0800 169 0133).
If you or your partner lives in a residential care home you may also qualify for help with nursing fees. This assistance is provided by local authorities and is means-tested. The means test includes the value of your house unless your partner, a relative who is aged 60 or over, or a relative who is sick or disabled lives there; or if you are trying to sell your former home (where relief is given for up to 6 months). If you have a partner you may be able to ignore 50% of your joint savings.
Income from Pension Credit is taken into account in your council's assessment of your financial circumstances. This means you may not get the full benefit of increases in your income due to Pension Credit. However, you may be able to claim a 'savings disregard' against your income (this may also be claimed by people who do not qualify for Pension Credit).
