Home Improvements Grants

What is it?

If you are a homeowner or a private tenant you may be able to claim help towards making repairs, improvements or adaptations to your home.
Note: If you live in Northern Ireland see our help page on home improvement grants in Northern Ireland.

Can I get it?

Only homeowners or private sector tenants can apply. Whether assistance is granted is at the discretion of your local authority – there are no national rules. In general grants are paid to people who are older, disabled or on a low income.

How do I claim?

To make a claim contact your local authority. In England you can also get information from your local Home Improvement Agency via the Foundations website in England. In Wales check Care and Repair Cymru and in Scotland ask your local council about it's 'scheme of assistance' as there is no central body and it will vary in each region.

Other grants for home improvements

There are a range of heating and insulation grants available to improve the energy-efficiency of your home under the Government's Energy Company Obligation.

💡 Our partner Energy Saving Genie can put you in touch with an installer and help you apply for an ECO grant.
