benefits for people who are ill or disabled

If you already claim disability or sickness benefits please say yes to this question. We will ask you which benefit you claim on the next page.

The calculator cannot help in giving advice to people who are eligible for disability benefits but are not claiming.

The Department for Work and Pensions run a confidential telephone service to help people with disabilities and carers. The Benefit Enquiry Line is 0800 88 22 00 (calls are free). The textphone number for deaf and hard-of-hearing people is 0800 24 33 55.

The Benefit Enquiry Line can provide you with information on local support groups and help with filling out disability claim forms over the telephone.

For general information about disability and related benefits please visit the sites on our more advice page

If you spend more than 35 hours a week looking after someone claiming a disability benefit you may be able to claim Carer's Allowance.

For information on the rules used in the calculator to work out eligibility to extra allowances see disability premiums in benefits and, if you work more than 16 hours a week, disability element in Working Tax Credit.
