Tax credits: work out your entitlement or enter manually

This question allows you to choose whether you would like the calculator to work out your entitlement to tax credits or whether you would like to enter the amount you already receive manually.

Entitlement to Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit depends on your current weekly income, including your current weekly income from tax credits. This means that it is important that you enter the correct amount of income from tax credits.

If you are already receiving tax credits and only want us to calculate your entitlement to Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support please select "I will enter amount received". We will use the tax credits amount you have entered when calculating entitlement to Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support.

If you are not receiving tax credits, or want to check the amount you receive, please select 'calculate entitlement'. Extra tax credit screens will then be displayed to allow the calculator to work out how much you might be entitled to. However, if you are already receiving tax credits please note that you may be subject to an adjustment from previous years. This means that HM Revenue & Customs may be reducing your payments to compensate for overpayments in previous years. This affects about one third of tax credit recipients. To find out more see tax credit overpayments. The calculator does not take into account overpayments and underpayments - it works out your entitlement on the basis that previous tax credit awards were correct.
